Hi! My point in starting this blog is that I hope to get people together to discuss online poker and more specifically one table sit ‘n gos (sngs). And also to show that you can easily plays these tournaments for supplemental income and for some people, make a decent living. For those of you who don’t know what a sit ‘n go is, it’s simply a small tournament with a limited number of players, usually 6, 9 or 10, where each player buys in for the same dollar amount and starts with the same amount of chips and play continues until one person wins them all; the top 2 or 3 spots get paid. Sounds exciting huh?…well, this is what I do for a living! I play on FullTiltPoker and my screen name is HiltonMagic. I grind out these online tournaments playing anywhere from 1-4 at a time, generally 2, and make a modest living. Not sure who I heard this quote from but I definitely agree with it, “poker is a hard way to make an easy living”.
A little about me:
I’m 27 years old. I graduated from Iowa State University, hence the screen name HiltonMagic. I first learned poker around 10 years ago back in high school with my brother’s friends playing for pocket change where a $5 bet was a “big bet”. It was mostly something to do instead of watching tv at home or going to movies. But, I soon learned that if I put in a little more time and paid attention, I could leave each night up a little money; and, it was easier and more fun than working my weekend job for minimum wage. As time passed, I continued to recreationally play and met others at college that liked to play. Here again, it was mostly for weekend spending money with an occassional roadtrip to Shakopee, MN to play some limit hold ‘em. Finally, I turned 21 and decided to give my try at online poker at PartyPoker. I think I started with maybe $100 and was skeptical and nervous like most beginning online poker players; I played small stakes and only cash games. At this point in my “poker career” I hadn’t even heard of sit ‘n gos and never read a poker book, I just knew I was a winning player with my friends and knew there was the potential to win a lot of money online. Over the next couple years, I played cash games and occassional multi-table tournaments (MTTs) on PartyPoker and made enough money to help pay rent and a few expenses while in school. I can’t remember exactly when PartyPoker was unavailable to US players, but I believe maybe a year before then I had heard of a site called FullTiltPoker, so I was giving my try at that one but at the time was not a winning player there so I pretty much only played at PartyPoker. Then, I graduated college and got a full-time job in the real world and pretty much stopped playing poker. After doing my full-time job for about a year, I decided to give poker another shot, this time taking it more seriously. I began to read books and had heard that some real money could be made at MTTs and SNGs if you could manage your bankroll. This was the beginning of my “poker career”…
**note: So I am basically computer illiterate and have never blogged, or twittered and I don’t even have a facebook account (yet), so please bare with me as I will hopefully be improving my computer knowledge and making this blog more and more interesting as time goes on! Once I get some of the tools and things figured out, I will be posting links, stats, graphs and hands.
